Buy West, Eat Best!

Buy west, eat best

As a consumer, you want to know that you are supporting the local food industry here in Western Australia right? Is it fair to say that adequate food labelling helps you to know exactly where the products you are buying are from?

The Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia (DAFWA) is helping consumers with a labelling program 'buy west, eat best'. It's not easy to say and the logo is not easy to miss!

The bright green 'buy west eat best' logo helps you to easily identify fresh food such as fruit and vegetables, meat, seafood and eggs that have been grown, farmed or fished right here in WA.

This also applies to processed foods where the main ingredient has been grown, farmed, fished and processed right here in WA. This includes yoghurts, cheeses and ice-cream, vinegar, flour, honey, wheat based breads, olive oil, sausages, jams or chutneys.

Businesses displaying the 'buy west eat best' logo must meet certain approved food safety requirements, and registration criteria. So when you see an item displaying the 'buy west eat best' logo, you know you are buying a truly Western Australian food product.

Support for 'buy west eat best' continues to grow with a wide variety of food businesses and retail stores registering, and actively promoting the programme, all which is monitored by DAFWA.
